Gamma function to Beck–Cohen superstatistics

In this paper, we show a mathematical construction of Beck–Cohen superstatistics in the Bayesian point of view with the help of the two representations of a gamma function. Furthermore, it is shown how some results for superstatistics are related to each other.     

Super efficiencies or super inefficiencies? Insights from a joint computation model for slacks-based measures in DEA

The slacks-based measure (SBM) can incorporate input and output slacks that would otherwise be neglected in the classical DEA model. In parallel, the super-efficiency model for SBM (S-SBM) has been developed for the purpose of ranking SBM efficient decision-making units (DMUs). When implementing SBM in conjunction with S-SBM, however, several issues can arise. First, unlike the standard super-efficiency model, S-SBM can only solve for super-efficiency scores but not SBM scores. Second, the S-SBM model may result in weakly efficient reference points. Third, the S-SBM and SBM scores for certain DMUs may be discontinuous with a perturbation to their inputs and outputs, making it hard to interpret and justify the scores in applications and the efficiency scores may be sensitive to small changes/errors in data. Due to this discontinuity, the S-SBM model may overestimate the super-efficiency score. This paper extends the existing SBM approaches and develops a joint model (J-SBM) that addresses the above issues; namely, the J-SBM model can (1) simultaneously compute SBM scores for inefficient DMUs and super-efficiency for efficient DMUs, (2) guarantee the reference points generated by the joint model are Pareto-efficient, and (3) the J-SBM scores of a firm are continuous in the input and output space. Interestingly, the radial DEA efficiency and super-efficiency scores for a DMU are continuous in the input–output space. The J-SBM model combines the merits of the radial and SBM models (i.e., continuity and Pareto-efficiency).     

Ionic Polymerization of α, α -Disubstituted Vinyl Monomers

Alkyl α-chloroacrylates and p-substituted α-methylstyrenes were investigated for the effect of polymerization conditions on tacticity, molecular weight, and distribution, and for the relationship between tacticity, glass temperature, and crystalline properties.     

The Conformation of Sterically Congested Seven-Membered Rings Containing Tetracoordinate Germanium(IV): A First X-Ray Crystallographic Structure Determination

The X-ray crystallographic analysis of 6,6-dimethyl-2,4,8,10-tetra-tert-octyl-dibenzo[d,f][1,3,2]dioxagermepin, 1 is reported. In the solid-state conformation of 1, the dihedral angle about the C─C sp²-sp ² σ bond connecting the two aryl rings is 50.1°. The observed C₂ symmetry in the solid-state conformation of 1 is consistent with the previously suggested solution conformation.     

3,4-Thienylene-ethynylene Oligomers

Several well-defined 3,4-thienylene-ethynylene oligomers with different chain lengths have been synthesized and characterized. X-Ray crystallographic analyses proved their unique, totally helical conformations.     

Sigmatropic Rearrangements in Phosphorylated 2-Azaallylic Systems

Abstract

Allylic and heteroallylic compounds are classical objects of organic chemistry and can serve as models in the investigation of various theoretical problems. The anions and 1,3-dipoles generated from azaallylic derivatives are widely used in the synthesis of cyclic and acyclic nitrogen-containing compounds.     

Note on the Design Differentiability of the Static Response of Elastic Structures

This paper provides a new proof of design sensitivity of the static response of some typical structures. These structures (beams, plates, and plane elastic solids) have been described previously. A proof of design sensitivity of the inverse state operator was provided there, and design sensitivity of static response was derived. The proof presented here is simpler and self-contained.     

Identification of a fault zone ahead of the tunnel excavation face using the extended Kalman filter

Simulation of mechanized tunneling and on-site excavation require very good knowledge of the geomechanical and material properties. Identification of the material must be fast and continuously performed during tunnel excavation for the best possible strategies for advancing the tunnel boring machine. We present in this work the use of the extended Kalman filter (EKF) for identification of the inclined fault zone ahead of the face. The EKF showed fast and stable convergence of the model parameters under study. In comparison with the particle swarm optimization technique applied to the same back analysis problem, faster convergence of the identified parameters as well as high robustness with respect to the choice of the initial parameter values have been observed.     

Analysis of the anisotropy of group velocity error due to spatial finite difference schemes from the solution of the 2D linear Euler equations

Numerical differencing schemes are subject to dispersive and dissipative errors, which in one dimension, are functions of a wavenumber. When these schemes are applied in two or three dimensions, the errors become functions of both wavenumber and the direction of the wave. For the Euler equations, the direction of flow and flow velocity are also important. Spectral analysis was used to predict the error in magnitude and direction of the group velocity of vorticity–entropy and acoustic waves in the solution of the linearised Euler equations in a two‐dimensional Cartesian space. The anisotropy in these errors, for three schemes, were studied as a function of the wavenumber, wave direction, mean flow direction and mean flow Mach number. Numerical experiments were run to provide confirmation of the developed theory. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
